Le Erbe di Janas Potassium Sorbate, 10 g

Potassium sorbate (potassium salt of sorbic acid) is synthesised by reacting with potassium hydroxide and sorbic acid, a naturally occurring carboxylic acid. It occurs as an odourless white solid, soluble in water but sparingly soluble in alcohol. Potassium sorbate is used in cosmetics as a preservative. Its antimicrobial activity is limited to yeast and fungi.

It is used as a preservative in various cosmetic preparations, such as lotions, creams, hair products and deodorants, always in combination with other antimicrobial substances, particularly sodium benzoate. It is approved for use in cosmetics up to a maximum concentration of 0.6%, referred to as acid. Potassium sorbate is considered a safe and well-tolerated ingredient.

Potassium sorbate is compliant with ICEA certification standards.

Application:

• Mix a solution made up of
  • 80 g distilled water
  • 10 g potassium sorbate
  • 10 g sodium benzoate
• To do so, first, dissolve the two preservatives in just a little water (taken from the 80 g measurement).
• Once completely dissolved, add the rest of the water.
• This mixture is used in an amount of 2.5 g in a preparation of 100 g (i.e. 97.5 g preparation and 2.5 g preservation).

Note: This is a basic preservative (pH 7.5) and therefore it must be adjusted to 5 with a pH regulator (lactic acid or citric acid) for preservation.
